2006 Showket Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

The Release of our 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is the next step in the continuing evolution of Showket Vineyards. Our winemaking team of Thomas Brocker and Russell Bevan has now been in place for more than two years and this wine has their finger prints all over it. They took over in January of 2007 and from day one they have treated this wine like it was their own. From the inclusion of 5% Merlot from our estate vineyards, a first for us, an increase in the percentage of Cabernet Franc, and a new oak barrel treatment, along with other changes in the winery, they have truly raised the bar for Showket Vineyards. Their goal is to craft wines that showcase rich textures and decadent flavors and they have certainly achieved their goal with this wine.

Because we are so proud of these endeavors and the resulting wine, we want everyone who has ever shown any interest in Showket Vineyards’ wines to try them. Therefore, the new price for the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is $65 per bottle.

“The 2006 Showket Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a departure from past vintages. This is our first vintage where we added a small amount of merlot and it had a major impact on the wine. In addition to our classic cassis and blackberry, this wine has a layer of rich chocolate accent. The merlot also rounded out the middle of the wine giving it a richer, layered quality. Aromatically the wine leaps from the glass: it starts with a wave of deep fruits, which gives way to hints of mocha and coca. In the mouth it has an initial burst of fruit, but it expands across the palate and eventually gives way to a long fruit driven finish. This is a very seductive wine that will be approachable on release and continue to develop for well over a decade.”

2005 Showket Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

It is with great pleasure that we release our 2005 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. We had a wonderful long, moderate, cool summer in 2005 -- perfect for our Oakville hillside fruit. Our Cabernet reveals the unique character of the vineyard location and exposure to the late afternoon sun.

Our 2005 Showket Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon might be the most complex wine we have ever released. The vintage gave us perfectly ripe Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, so we increased the percentage of the Cabernet Franc to 15% and it shows in the finished wine. In addition to our hallmark black berry and cassis aromatics this vintage shows hints of violets, tobacco and cedar from the additional Cabernet Franc. On the palate it is very round and seductive. It starts with a lively grip and gains size and depth as it opens up. It will be a perfect compliment to hearty dishes, but can also stand on its own. The 2005 Showket Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is truly an exceptional wine.
